I studied media art and dance in Canada and fine art in London, UK. Although I have been influenced by Western cultures, I pursue the natural world of matter, beyond all those cultural frames, in finding my sense of self and, thus, in making art. Improvisation then became my method for art.āØ
My artist residency at Yatoo in South Korea, in 2015 and 2016, greatly influenced my art from this perspective. Their theme, Nature art, focused on the relationship between humans and nature. They advise artists to enter nature without preconceptions and allow themselves to be transformed in encounters with nature, while minimizing human interruptions. This philosophy regarding the relationship between nature and art (or artists) became the foundation of my art practice.
I mainly use bodily movement to practice improvisation, but I also employ my knowledge of visual art and media art. I have been making site-specific improvised performance since 2015. Since then, I have gradually been incorporating sound art in my performances, in relation to the concepts of movement and space. I am also starting to explore the form of dance theatre, using sound within an improvised theatrical setting. I explore ways to use sound as a vehicle for understanding bodily performance through the concept of space, both natural and conceptual. āØ
I also make DIY printmaking, employing the same principles of improvisation that I use for my performance work. I often use recycles as plates and plant based ink available in the kitchen or nature.
