In 2022, together with Japanese musician Tamura Ryo (based in Seoul, South Korea), I questioned the nature of sound and movement in the process of making performance, examining cultural dichotomies, such as sound vs. music and movement vs. dance. Our research encompassed the cultural differences between East and West. For three months in 2024, supported by British Columbia Arts Council in Canada, we expanded our study by learning Buddhist drumming together in Seoul. Sound of the Void is one segment of my own study of the relationship between sound and movement, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
