Rice Paper

I am interested in objects that are essential and yet unnoted because they are too common in our daily lives. I want to tell their stories through my bodily movement, projected images, and objects. 

'Rice Paper’ is a segment of a performance series Things of Silence, which I have been developing based on this idea. In relation to the theme of rice paper, I focus on rice paper's association with East Asian culture and its lightweight texture and sound. The performance has a black-and-white colour theme to reference Chinese calligraphy, and I highlight the sound of the paper using my bodily movement and objects such as rotating fans or mobile toys.
