We will make maps of the neighbourhood to share our knowledge and stories of lesser-known areas where natural food resources can be found. The event will happen from 1pm till 5:30pm on the 28th of May 2023. In principle, the event is open to everyone.

* Because the number of participants is limited to 21, pre-registration is required. Please message me to register.

Participants will learn traditional knowledge about food and foraging from one another and share our concerns and questions relating to this theme. We will get to know each other, and possibly know where we can get food. The map will also provide historical documentation of the neighbourhood.

The event will be divided into two phases. First, I will gather information and stories from participants through email by the 26th of May. This can be in any format, e.g., text, photographs, drawings, etc. I will make a map that we can use for our walk on the 28th of May.

Second, we will gather at Kits House at 1pm on the 28th and walk around our chosen location for about 1.5 hours following the map that I made. We will return to Kits House at 2.30pm and talk a bit over tea, coffee, and snacks, which will be provided.

Then, as we recall the memories of our walk, we will make prints together, employing DIY methods. We will use commonly available objects (rubber bands, paper cut-outs, leaves, bones, ferns, feathers, flour, charcoal powder) as ‘plates’ to make repeated patterns. Art supplies will be provided, and no artistic skill is required. These prints will become elements of our maps of the walk.

I will then create a small book of maps of the neighbourhood with the graphic maps, prints, stories, and information (such as locations, wild food found at those locations, how to cook those foods, etc.). Every participant will be given a digital copy of this book.

Please join us and enjoy the day, walking, making prints, and getting to know each other.
